An explanation of the law covering the duties of schools to identify and meet the special educational needs of children who do not have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Plus an overview of Haringey guidance to schools on what they are expected to provide from the school’s resources.

Choosing a Secondary School for your child with SEND

How to research what support is available in secondary schools for children with SEND. An explanation of how the system of allocating school places works in Haringey: for children with an EHC Plan and for those without one.

Requesting an EHC needs assessment and what should be in a good EHC Plan

Tuesday 15th October 2024 – 10 to 11:30am

Explaining the criteria for and process of requesting an Education Health & Care needs assessment for a child with additional needs, including how to appeal if the request for a needs assessment is refused by the Local Authority. Also, a guide on how to review the different sections of an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to check that your child’s needs are accurately described, and the provision in the Plan is clear, specific and quantified.

Key principles of the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice. The system for SEND provision in schools, reviewing progress, Education Health Care needs assessments and Plans (EHCPs), Annual Reviews mediation and appealing against Local Authority decisions.

Learn about Haringey’s Personal Budget scheme for disabled children, including the assessment process, your choices and rights and how support should be provided.
