Markfield was officially opened on 7 March 1986 by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, beginning a journey focused on creating inclusive opportunities and making a positive difference in the community—something that continues to this day.

Celebrations kicked off on Saturday, 14 March 2026, with a special “Royal” Family Club event. With great weather and a fantastic turnout, the day was a big success. Families enjoyed time in the adventure playground, our traditional bonfire with marshmallows, as well as indoor crafts and activities. The event also included a lunch prepared by volunteers.

This special event was also a chance to welcome back former staff, trustees, and others connected to Markfield’s early days, including structural engineer Peter Roche, who was involved in the building’s refurbishment in the 1980s. After the event, he shared: “Thank you for your welcome. It’s inspiring to see the Markfield building still so vibrant after all these years. Congratulations to you and your team, and best of luck for the future.”

Markfield would like to thank its staff and volunteers, whose hard work made the day possible, as well as Erica Raihno of Kalilas Bakery for generously donating a beautiful celebratory cake. A special mention also goes to Sarah Miller, who led the organisation for over a decade and continues to play an active role in its events.

More events are planned throughout the year as Markfield continues to celebrate its past and look ahead to the future.
